My own wife was recognized from publicly posting nudes back in 2012. Not from my doing but someone harvested benign FB photos from my wife's profile to use in fabricating accounts and catfishing. She was recognized and contacted about it. Not nearly the experience you had but it took a bit to kill off those catfishers.

Porn sites also harvest posted wives and use them for search engines and splash pages before getting to the buy me, subscribe me page. I've seen several long running, posted wifes turned into porn site bait.
