Issues with broken Images!

Hello Dear P&H Users,

Today we had a horrible crush on one of our upload servers that is responsible for the data from the last 3 month of sites operation

We are now battling on restoring around 1TB of data.

The recovery time (if successful) should be around 14 hours give or take. so please bare with us.

We will keep you posted as get news from our hosting company.

Very bad news. This is the second photo host who in recent days has such a large-scale problem. imagebam just lost all the pictures from one of the servers.

Quick update from the hosting company:

Hello,

There was an issue with the rebuild the first time around so we replaced the HD and restarted the process.

The drive is currently 54% rebuilt - We are monitoring the progress and will be sure to update you as soon as it is complete.

The rebuild had failed again, it is possible that since slot 0 and slot 1 failed, the rebuild may be impossible. We have transplanted the hardware into a new chassis with a new backplane and cabling to attempt once more.

So.... to my seeing the chances seems slim... but again waiting.

We will update you once we know more about the status of the array, currently it is rebuild at 54%. The previous attempt failed at around 75%, which may indicate that the drive paired with the rebuilding drive (slot 0 and slot 1 respectively) may have issues.

Quick Update:

Unfortunately once again the rebuild to a replacement slot1 drive fails out at 75%. We have, however, managed to get the previously undectable drive (slot1) working again in the replacement chassis/backplane, though we're sure that it is still a temporary solution at best. We will try to rebuild the array into slot 0 instead of slot 1 like we have been, hopefully the data on the original Slot1 drive is in better shape and will allow the rebuild to slot0 to complete successfully. Should this fail, we can see about just trying to pull whatever we can from the degraded RAID or passing the server back to you in a rescue environment to move any data you can offsite. We'll keep you updated as to the progress.

At this point the third rebuild failed also, and we are now trying to save at least some of the data manually, the process is going but the guys are asleep due to a very hard night, so i`ll keep you posted when i have some more information.

Managed to recover a big part of the data, I'm going to attempt one last try to recover at least a part of the missing data (~ 43 GB of data still need to be recovered) and most likely tomorrow the data will be online, we are really sorry for the inconvenience, doing the best we can to restore everything.

99.9% of data has been recovered, unfortunately it seems that ~ 1.5 GB of data is lost forever. We will bring the server back up as soon as possible.

We replaced the drives of the system, data is now being copied back, unfortunately it will take ~ 20h until the process is completed and to avoid stress on the system we decided to keep ist3 offline for a bit longer. Will update you soon.

The situation has not improved. Things got worse. Now some of the pictures show it (full-size images are working properly. ):

We did our best in trying to recover all data from the failed raid, unfortunately about 2 GB of data is lost forever and there is nothing we can do about it. I've tried 5 times to recover the data but the images were corrupted, I'm surprised actually that we managed to recover this much data anyway. If there is a chance for you to reupload those images please do so - all data that we were able to recover is currently available so if you still see broken images, unfortunately some of the images you uploaded are lost forever.

Because not servers are yet back, we are waiting for them to recover, once done we will bring back the missing server.

Yes there is, that's what i wrote, once we manage to backup the servers, we will start putting the server live and it will be restoring missing stuff ;)

So finally 1 HD rebuilt O.K, we replaced the second HD which had failed last time, and it`s rebuilding right now.

P.S: One of the servers that is now missing and that's why lots of images are down, is also backing up, i hope in the next few days its DONE backing up and we will start rebuilding HD there also and serving from it.

Hopefully we will be able to restore the site fully soon enough. thanks for your patience boys & girls!
